Rug Process

Hand Carding

This is a very first process of rug making that disentangles, cleans and intermixes fibres of wool to produce a continuous web suitable for subsequent processing.A pair of hand cards usually rectangular and square paddles is used to brush the wool between them until the fibres are more or less aligned in same direction.

Hand Dyeing

Before dyeing and printing, the fabric is prepared by washing and bleaching to strengthen the texture quality.  In hand dyeing, fabrics are immersed in hot or cold dyes in a dyeing pot Shuvam   Carpet uses Switzerland dyes known as swiss dyes which is well known for its strong colour consistency.

Hand Weaving

Now the next is, hand weaving. Shuvam Carpet rugs are all woven by hand, matter of fact, all the techniques used by Shuvam Carpet to produce a fine rug is hand driven. Firstly, Rod typically named as Dandi is used where the knots are completed, Thuwa, a hammer like iron metal hammers down the rod, Churri, a small knife cuts down the knot freeing the rod and locks the knot in the loom and lastly Panja a metal comb is used to secured the knot.

Rug Washing

After weaving process, rug is removed from the loom for further procedures. Rug is fully submerged in water which pushes water through the fibres of front and back of rug. And then after rug is laid in flat surface where perferred chemicals and detergents are used as per the nature of carpet to rinse. While washing the carpets, Shuvam Carpet strongly keeps environment and workers health in mind.

Rug Finishing

Once a rug is washed, shearing is performed to make the pile even. Shuvam Carpet artisans shears the top of the rug to make the rug design clearer and eliminate fuzz. This process leaves the rug with a glossy finish.
